Why do we need to classify organisms?

i feel that we need to classify things because when we have to find a certain organism. We know the similarities and differences of the organisms. those are my thoughts.

how many species are there? in the world, the earth and the ocean.
ooh my teacher told me about google goggles:D

classification is the arrangement of organisms into orderly groups based on their similarities. 


classification is also known as taxonomy.
taxonomists are scientists that identify and name organisms.

Benefits of classifications
accurately and uniformly names organisms
prevents misnomers.
use same language for all names

2000 years ago, Aristotle divided organisms.
John Ray, a botanist,  is the first person to use Latin for naming.
18th century taxonomist, classified organisms by structure, known as binomial nomenclature, Carolus Linnaeus

Latin or greek
Italicized in print
Capitalize genus, not species
underline when writing

Example:
Homo sapiens
